For the Deborah L. Wilkerson Award, Dr. Tolu Oyesanya will present an overview of her patient- and family-centered research program. Her primary area of expertise focuses on improving care and support of patients with TBI and family caregivers across acute care settings, particularly during the transition from acute hospital care to home. Her presentation will describe the contributions she has made in four specific research areas including: 1) understanding the pre- and post-discharge experience of patients with TBI and their family caregivers, 2) identifying how healthcare providers care for patients with TBI and make decisions about TBI care in acute care settings, 3) identifying risk factors associated with poor outcomes for patients with TBI, and 4) developing and testing TBI transitional care interventions.
