Burnout in Cancer Rehabilitation is widespread amongst clinicians and caregivers impacting physical health and mental well-being, which is reflected in diminished Quality of Life, loss of work satisfaction and depersonalization, which in turn negatively impacts patient-clinician relationships, patient care and patient satisfaction.(10) Compassion fatigue and moral distress, associated with severe burnout, are particularly burdensome and difficult to manage. Covid-19 pandemic-related stressors such as reduced in-person encounters, loss of human touch, and feelings of isolation have further increased the risk of burnout.(7) This symposium will characterize burnout throughout multiple aspects of Cancer Rehabilitation. Tangible, evidence-based methods of reducing burnout and building resilience from systemic changes to individualized strategies with integrative medicine approaches will be presented through the lens of a diverse, interdisciplinary group of expert practitioners from the Cancer Rehabilitation Networking Group.

Learning Objectives:

Define and characterize burnout in cancer rehabilitation
Review the current literature on burnout in cancer rehabilitation
Synthesize recent scientific literature into an integrative perspective for resilience
Identify individualized integrative medicine approaches to reduce burnout and build resilience
Examine effective cancer rehabilitation initiatives for reducing burnout and improving resilience through the perspective of a diverse, expert interdisciplinary, multi-institutional panel discussion
