Pregnancy care for people with spina bifida: an interdisciplinary approach

People with spina bifida are choosing to become pregnant more often. As spina bifida is a complex condition impacting multiple organ systems, management of pregnancy in this population requires a multi-disciplinary approach.
This symposium draws on recent clinical practice guidelines as well as data from the Spina Bifida Reproductive Health and Pregnancy study, to provide practical advice on the interdisciplinary management of people with spina bifida during the reproductive year. Pre-pregnancy planning, a systems based approach to pregnancy including mobility, bladder, shunt and obstetrical concerns; delivery, and the postpartum time frame will be addressed.

Learning Objectives:

To understand current research in the area of spina bifida and pregnancy
To identify key clinical practice guidelines in antenatal and labour and delivery care for pregnant people with spina bifida
To apply the knowledge gained to caring for pregnant people with spina bifida in one’s own practice
