After TBI, children need support when they return to school and often require accommodations and support to be successful. This symposium will describe Year 1 results of a CDC-funded return-to-school project (STATBI) and will also describe the impact of COVID on these students. Additional interview data regarding COVID, the impact of TBI, barriers and facilitators of educational access during COVID for children with TBI, and performance across all measures in the protocol are currently being analyzed and will be available by the time of presentation. Additional analysis will be presented of a prospective cohort of students followed by the study since March of 2021, which will be compared with the initial retrospective cohort for analysis of any potential differences in learning supports that may have occurred since the onset of COVID and virtual learning envrionments.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will be able to describe the types of learning accommodations that students can receive in a statewide return to school program for students after traumatic brain injury.
Upon completion, participants will be able to list 3 major barriers that families describe in obtaining the necessary learning supports during COVID for students with brain injury.
Upon completion, participants will be able to demonstrate adjustments that need to be made in a return to learn program when learning environments change from in-person to virtual.
