IC11: Rehabilitation of Everyday Mathematics in People with Aphasia

In this instructional course, the presenters will share a framework to guide the rehabilitation of everyday math skills with clients with aphasia to make number processing and calculation skills more accessible. Presenters will begin by exploring personal math attitudes and perceptions and the impact this can have on clinical interactions. Presenters will discuss the neurological connections between language and math and its role in rehabilitation of everyday math with clients. Together, participants will be guided through a review of foundational math skills to support everyday client-centered goals. Finally, participants will engage in hands-on creative mathematics rehabilitation activities that will increase clinician’s confidence and skills to work with clients around their basic math skills.
