This IC will provide expert guidance to aid implementation of the Minimal Competency Recommendations (Giacino et al, 2020) within your organization and/or clinical practice. For clinicians with basic knowledge and experience working with DoC patients, this course will help develop a greater level of expertise to improve the quality of services provided at all levels of care through interactive case series group work and discussion. Education provided will also benefit rehabilitation leadership and administration tasked with program development and quality improvement. This IC will cover the domains of assessment and diagnosis, medical management, treatment interventions, prognosis, transition of care, family support and ethical considerations. This IC will also provide networking opportunities as well as problem-solving discussion between attendees and experts to promote growth and competence in DoC care, programming and individual clinical skills.

Learning Objectives:

Identify Minimal Competency Recommendations for DoC Rehabilitation Programs.
Describe how implementing the Minimal Competency Recommendations can optimize service delivery and improve care outcomes.
Participate in case studies and discussion to identify intervention techniques to improve clinical care in alignment with competency recommendations.
Participate in case studies and clinical audit to identify gaps in DoC services and develop strategies to improve implementation of the Minimal Competency Recommendations across care settings within the confines of individual practice.
Participants will be able to understand the basics of diagnosing DOC patients
