A key component of the Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Model Systems program is the SCI Model Systems Database that has been in existence since 1975. It includes initial hospitalization data for more than 35,000 individuals with a recent-onset SCI and follow-up interview data collected at 1 year post-injury, 5 years post-injury, and every 5 years thereafter. This instructional course will provide an overview of the database, including its history, availability, as well as best practices for analysis and reporting of the data. Researchers and clinicians interested in conducting research using the SCI Model Systems Database are encouraged to attend so they can interact with faculty to design studies addressing their own research questions. Participants are encouraged to download the public data set and documents on the website to get familiar with the data set.
