Moving Forward in HART Design: Content Validity

Research Objectives: To assess the content validity of the Health App Review Tool (HART), via expert panel. The HART is not an app, in and of its-self, but rather an assessment tool used to determine how well suited an app is for a member of the ADRD or caregiver population. This study is carried out with the ultimate goal of ensuring the HART’s validity as a health app match tool with clinical relevance.

Design: Cross sectional design.

Setting: The content validity panel is being carried out via Zoom and in person as appropriate.

Participants: We are actively recruiting N=10 total healthcare professionals who have clinical experience with Alzheimer's disease and related dementia (ADRD) populations, and digital health design experts with personal or professional experience using health apps.

Interventions: Participants are asked to trial the HART and then provide an objective evaluation via a content validation form that asks about the relevance of each HART items to its respective domain (Usefulness, Complexity, Accessibility, and External Factors). In addition to the content validation forms, we are also collecting qualitative feedback via discussion during the expert panel. As the study continues, the qualitative study will be followed up to perform a usability test among the targeted population.

Main Outcome Measures: Content validity forms and calculations are based on those reported by Yusoff (2019). Panelists are asked to rate each HART item as not relevant al all, somewhat relevant, relevant, or highly relevant to the domain they are loading onto. Scores are then calculated at both item and scale level.

Results: We anticipated that rater perceptions will indicate content validity across the HART items as they load onto the intended domains.

Conclusions: The findings of this content validation study lay the ground work for future usability and efficacy testing.
