Development and Validation of a Military Fear Avoidance Questionnaire

Research Objectives: To create a military fear-avoidance questionnaire, the Return to Duty Readiness Questionnaire (RDRQ)
To establish evidence of validity for the Return to Duty Readiness Questionnaire (RDRQ)

Design: This study used a quantitative research design using retrospective data analysis methods. Data is comprised of completed Return to Duty Readiness Questionnaire (RDRQ) and FACS surveys that were collected over a three year period and provided to the author for analysis.

Setting: The setting for survey collection was an active-duty primary care clinic.

Participants: The population for this study includes active duty Army Soldiers receiving primary care treatment for musculoskeletal pain at the Farrelly Health Care Clinic at Ft. Riley, KS. Completed questionnaires were collected and compiled at the collection site then provided to the author for analysis.

Main Outcome Measures: The Return to Duty Readiness Questionnaire (RDRQ)
The Fear Avoidance Components Scale (FACS)

Results: Reliability coefficients suggest good reliability estimate of the RDRQ, and correlational analysis suggests good that the RDRQ is measuring the intended constructed.

Conclusions: The military fear-avoidance questionnaire, the Return to Duty Readiness Questionnaire, was found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool in an active duty Army musculoskeletal pain population.
