Dr. Fotios Koumpouras is Associate Professor of Medicine and Program Training Director for Rheumatology. He also directs the Yale Lupus Program and oversees multiple clinical trials in SLE while following a research cohort of lupus patients. The clinical program is focused on new therapeutics and safety outcomes. This is supplemented by a bio-specimen repository that provides material to Yale faculty in Rheumatology who are centered on the discovery of novel inflammatory pathways to cure disease.
As Training Program Director, Dr. Koumpouras has implemented new teaching tools designed to advance the learning experience while nurturing a research atmosphere. He plans to expand the opportunities in training and research by increasing fellows' collaborative network.
He is an active member in the ACR COTW and is helping to develop a curriculum for new Program Directors.
Aside from his career activities, Dr. Koumpouras enjoys post-cubism art, beach combing and chess and walking his dogs.
