Sussex MSK Partnership
Bexhill on Sea, United Kingdom
I qualified as a nurse in 1985 at Kings College in London. I then began working in dermatology and rheumatology as a staff nurse. Following this I worked in intensive care and cardiology, and it was whilst there I undertook study for a master’s degree in clinical sciences. Discovering an interest in the immune system during this time I was able to move into a Rheumatology Nurse Specialist role. I worked at Worthing Hospital and Sussex Community Foundation Trust in Brighton as a Consultant Nurse before becoming Clinical Lead and helping to set up the Sussex MSK partnership (Central).
I developed an interest in education, lecturing at Brighton University medical school, also developing an interest in self-management programs for people with musculoskeletal and rheumatological conditions. I have participated in working groups for a number of BSR guidelines and also participated in the development of the first NICE quality standard guidance for Rheumatoid arthritis. I recently led on the development of Royal College of Nursing Competency Framework for Rheumatology Nurses published in March 2020 and I am currently leading on the publication of the evaluation of that document. I am currently an elected member of the British Society of Rheumatology Education Committee and am their first ever elected Nurse member of a committee and am leading on Rheumatology Nurse education.
