Patrick Garnero, PhD, DSc is director of research at the National Institute for Health and Medical Research (INSERM U 1033, Lyon, France). He directs research for more 30 years on new biochemical markers of bone, cartilage and synovial tissues and their applications in clinical studies and pharmaceutical trials in osteoporosis, arthritis and bone metastasis. For 11 years he was the scientific and managing director of the biomarker division of SYNARC, a specialized international service company providing imaging and biochemical marker services for the pharmaceutical industry. He actively participated in the phase I-III clinical development of numerous novel therapies in osteoporosis and arthritis and was PI of several collaborative research studies. He acts in advisory scientific boards from academic and pharmaceutical institutions and is an expert for reviewing EU grants and scientific manuscripts. Dr Garnero has published more 280 scientific papers in international per review journals and wrote several book chapters. He is inventor in several patents on novel biochemical assays.
