Dr. Deal graduated from the University of Arkansas School Of Medicine in 1977 where he was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Society. After completing his internal medicine training at Boston City Hospital, he completed his rheumatology fellowship at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. After serving on the faculty in the rheumatology program at Boston University, Dr. Deal moved in 1984 to Cleveland and Case Western University School of Medicine to work under Dr. Roland Moskowitz. He served as fellowship program director and was an investigator in clinical trials in both arthritis and osteoporosis. In 1999 he established the Osteoporosis Center at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation under Dr. Gary Hoffman. Dr. Deal is currently an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is a staff physician at the Cleveland Clinic and Head, Section of Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease.
He has been co-author for the osteoporosis management chapter for the textbook Rheumatology for the last three editions. He is a Master of the American College of Rheumatology.
