Renée Van der Cruyssen is a PhD student at the VIB-UGent Center for Inflammation Research. Renée studied Biomedical Sciences at Ghent University, majoring in Immunology. As her master's thesis, she worked on NKT cell biology, providing her a firm immunological background. Her PhD project at the lab of Professor Dirk Elewaut at VIB-Ghent University focusses on osteoimmunology. She studies the metabolic factor GDF15 and its role in bone loss in PsA. Renée identified GDF15 as a novel factor mediating bone loss, through a brain-bone axis. Identifying this surprising new pathway provided her with a vast array of skills to apply during her future scientific career
