Dr. Panagiota Drivelegka was born in Thessaloniki, Greece. She obtained her medical degree at the Aristoteles University in Thessaloniki. Afterwards, she moved to Sweden and started her training in rheumatology at the Sahlgrenska University hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden. She became a board certified rheumatologist in Sweden in 2020.
In parallel to her clinical training, she also has finished a PhD in rheumatology which she defended in November 2021. The focus of her thesis was to describe the prevalence and incidence of gout in Sweden, the burden of associated comorbidities and the risk for acute coronary events. After her PhD defence, she immediately started a post-doc period where she continues to focus on cardiovascular disease in patients with gout and the effect of urate lowering treatment.
In addition to her clinical work and academic research, she also is the main supervisor for the Rheumatology course for medical students at the Sahlgrenska University hospital and spends much time in teaching medical students.
Dr. Drivelegka lives in Gothenburg, Sweden with her husband and their two children. She enjoys spending time with her family and she likes traveling and reading.
