Martin Englund received his MD in 1998 and PhD in Orthopaedics in 2004, Lund University, Sweden. He is a Professor of Epidemiology and Orthopedics and currently heads the Clinical Epidemiology Unit at Department of Orthopaedics, Lund University and Skåne University Hospital, Sweden.
Prof Englund’s research portfolio spans from molecular aspects and imaging of osteoarthritis to epidemiology, health economy and burden of joint injury. He currently focuses on the relationships between meniscal pathologies and osteoarthritis in order to gain new knowledge of “the meniscal pathway to osteoarthritis”.
Prof Englund has published more than 280 peer-reviewed articles which has attracted more than 18,000 citations. He is currently serving as President-elect of the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI). He has been recognized by multiple international awards for his original research on the role of meniscus in osteoarthritis (OARSI Clinical Investigator Award 2011, European League of Rheumatology Young Investigator Award 2012, and International Élise Jourdevant Prize 2018).
