John D. Mountz, MD, PhD, Professor of Medicine and Microbiology and Goodwin-Blackburn Research Chair in Rheumatology, will be Associate Director for the proposed RDRRC and also Associate Director of the proposed Single Cell and Repertoire Technology Core. Dr. Mountz has been Director of the UAB Rheumatic Diseases Cores Center (RDCC) and RDCC-Comprehensive Flow Cytometry Core from 2008 to 2020.
Dr. Mountz, a practicing rheumatologist, is a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI) and the Association of American Physicians (AAP) and actively reviews grants for the NIH, VA, Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) and Arthritis Foundation. Dr. Mountz is recipient of the 2016 American College of Rheumatology Basic Science Investigator Award and the 2017 ACR Master Award. He is an editor of Rheumatology: Current Research and Discovery Medicine. He has an exemplary record in training young investigators, including MD and PhD scientists, in rheumatic disease research.
