I graduated as physical therapist at Karolinska Institutet in 1991. I have been a clinician withing the field of rheumatology since 1993. I completed my PhD-studies in 2003, defending my doctoral thesis entitled "Exercise and clinical outcome measures in patients with polymyositis and dermatomyositis". I completed my post-doc research fellowship 2007-2008 at the division of Rheumatology, Mayo Clinic, MN, USA under supervision of Dr Steven Ytterberg and Dr Ann Reed. I have continued to focus my research on molecular and clinical effects of exercise in the idiopathic inflammatory myopathies. I became an associate professor (docent) at Karolinska Institutet in 2014. I lead a small research group of PhD-students within the large, multidiciplinary myositis research group at the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology, Karolinska Institutet. Since 2019, I am chair of the International Myositis Assessment and Clinical Studies group (IMACS) Rehabilitation and Exercise Scientific Interest Group. Since 2011, I am co-chair of the OMERACT Myositis Working group. I have published altogether 76 peer-reviewed original and review papers within the field of myositis.
