Dr. Sampath Prahalad received his medical degree from India. He completed his pediatric training in the UK and at Hershey PA, followed by a pediatric rheumatology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. He joined the faculty of Pediatrics at the University of Utah in 2001. He moved to Emory University in 2009, and he is now the Marcus Professor and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Rheumatology.
Dr. Prahalad has a track record of research on understanding genetic and epidemiological factors influencing childhood autoimmune disorders, particularly JIA. He is also investigating digital biomarkers of articular health. He received the Henry Kunkel Young Investigator Award for his research in 2012. He has a track record of extramural funding and publication, with over 150 papers.
He is also a compassionate physician who takes pride in providing excellent pediatric rheumatology service to children in Georgia and neighboring states. He has been recognized as a “Top Doctor” in Pediatric Rheumatology by Atlanta Magazine for the past 9 years. His dedication to children with rheumatic diseases was recognized by the Arthritis Foundation with the Hugh McLeod Award in 2016.
He also enjoys his role of a mentor to medical and undergraduate students, residents and fellows, many of whom have received awards.
