Dr. Lauren Covert is a Pediatric Rheumatology Fellow at Duke University Children’s Hospital. She attended Duke University for her undergraduate degree in Biology and Visual Art and worked in Washington, DC in healthcare technology marketing before attending medical school at Georgetown University. She completed combined Internal Medicine & Pediatrics residency at University of California, San Diego and is board certified in both specialties. She is interested in rare, complex, systemic diseases that require ongoing care from childhood to adulthood. In her current fellowship, she is conducting basic and translational research on the pathophysiology of and potential therapies for inflammatory myopathies such as Juvenile Dermatomyositis with the overarching goal of defining new, more precise, and less toxic therapeutic options.
