Alexa Meara, MD is a graduate of the Georgetown University School of Medicine (2008). She completed her internal medicine training at East Carolina University (ECU) at Vidant Medical Center (2008-20011), then becoming Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at ECU (2011-2012). She was then recruited as the associate training Program Director for Internal Medicine (2012-2013). She pursued further training in Rheumatology at The Ohio State University from 2013-2015. After completing 2 extra years of fellowship for expanding her research (2015-2017). She is an Associate Professor of Medicine, in the Division of Oncolgy and Immunology and Rheumatology at OSU. Currently, she has OSU's inaugural immune-related adverse event clinic as well as maintains a multidisciplinary vasculitis clinic, and supervises a longitudinal registry of lupus nephritis and vasculitis patients. Her clinical research is understanding the immune related adverse events second to cancer immunotherapy. Her priority is understanding patients with pre-existing autoimmune disease and subsequent side effects from cancer immunotherapy. She also teaches medical students in the pre-clinical years and working with struggling learners.
