Dr. Emily Smitherman is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics’ division of Pediatric Rheumatology. She received her MD from University of Texas Southwestern Medical School and a Master of Science in Clinical and Translational Research from the University of Cincinnati. She completed her Pediatric Residency at Duke University Medical Center and her Pediatric Rheumatology fellowship training at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Smitherman’s research centers around improving outcomes for children with rheumatic diseases, with a focus on health systems, implementation science, and health equity. She is currently working with real-world datasets to benchmark current practices and health outcomes for childhood-onset lupus.
