Effective communication of scientific data is one of the most important skills of a scientist. If the intended audience does not get and act upon the message from the data, the research effort is wasted. Data visualization in tables and graphs is essential to effective communication and ultimately research dissemination, as it can convey complex relationships in a way unmatched by simple text. However, data visualization is not often part of a formal scientific education, nor is it a focus of journals and scientific societies. This session aims to convey the principles, from choices for type of visualization, via technique and storytelling, to optimum tables and graphs for publication and presentation.
