Osteoarthritis is a leading cause of chronic pain and disability. Treatment is focused on long-term self-management with exercise, physical activity and weight loss (when required), which are considered core treatments. Helping a patient stay accountable with these treatments at home is very important, thus acceptability of telehealth to both patients and clinicians will be explored.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a rapid increase in the use of telehealth for delivery of health care across the globe. This session will review the evidence about efficacy of real-time telehealth consultations to support lifestyle management of people with osteoarthritis, with a focus on relevant systematic reviews and randomized control trials.
Barriers and enablers to implementation of telehealth services will also be discussed. Potential solutions to overcoming telehealth challenges will be discussed based on experiences of the speaker in the Australian setting.
