The goal of this session is to discuss how to use social media to disseminate scientific knowledge and how to be a critical consumer of science in social media using real-world examples, including tweeting about academic meetings, promoting research and publications online, infographics and visual abstracts, tweetorials, and plain language summaries and how these methodologies of communicating information have been implemented in rheumatology.

We will also explore some of the ways rheumatologists access medical literature aside from the traditional journals, including social media, podcasts, and web-based resources.

Learning Objectives:

Describe methods to disseminate research on social media (Twitter), including compliance issues
Discuss methods for discriminating between verifiable high-yield learning versus the potential for misinformation
Illustrate methods of asynchronous medical education using social media for both rheumatologists and patients
