How do I best compare the performance of a new, more cost-effective screening test of disease against the “gold standard?" Is there a benefit to including additional diagnostic criteria with regards to a certain diagnostic test? These are examples of the type of research questions that are best addressed by analyzing the performance of screening or diagnostic tests.
The performance and accuracy of screening and diagnostic tests are relevant not just to the average researcher, but also to a practitioner or clinician that might interact with testing procedures on a routine basis and may have some of these questions themselves, or might seek out the relevant literature for such answers.
