This session will provide an overview of methods for modeling categorical variables that researchers routinely encounter in their own research or when surveying the research literature. We will develop awareness of these approaches by starting from the audience’s existing knowledge of statistical modeling of continuous response variables, then extending that knowledge in ways specific for categorical response variables.
We will also describe the salient features of models for categorical data, tailored for our audience through extensive use of examples from the field of rheumatology. Additionally, we will include modeling results using data from studies on which we have worked, placing particular emphasis on the interpretation of these results.
