Over the last two decades, infusible medications have been available as treatment options for various rheumatic diseases. While clinicians recognize the value these medications can provide, there is less understanding about the logistics involved from a business perspective.
From understanding which patients are eligible to receive infusion services to understanding the terminology of “buy and bill” and “white, brown and clear bagging,” often these new concepts require independent learning. This is particularly true when provided as an in-office ancillary service. The goal of this session is to provide a comprehensive overview of ancillary infusion services, specifically to discuss options for providing this service, define common terminology used and discuss key concepts about the role and implementation of these services. The discussion will also include the importance of verification and eligibility determination, options for medication purchasing, an introduction to coding, billing and reimbursement, and potential pitfalls to avoid.
The second part of the session will be a panel discussion with Q&A. Panelists will address frequently asked questions about the implementation of infusion services within rheumatology practices and the role, along with potential pros and cons of this ancillary service within a practice.
