Aging is associated with changes in body composition, i.e., reduced muscle mass and increased fat mass. The goal of this session is to provide an understanding of age-related body composition changes and their implications for patients with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Learning Objectives:

Recognize age-related changes in body composition and approaches to assess body composition
Examine the complex inter-relationship of change in body composition and osteoarthritis
Review the association of body composition changes in rheumatoid arthritis with proposed causal mechanisms, focusing on accelerated aging
