Scleroderma is one of our most challenging rheumatic diseases. We now recognize that there are unique subtypes of scleroderma that are linked together by common clinical and pathological features. The traditional classification into limited and diffuse cutaneous subtypes does not capture the complexity of the disease process or clearly define management. This lecture will focus on clinical features, serological and special testing designed to better predict disease course and suggest best intervention. We must use our clinical skills to make treatment decisions and define precision management as we move into the era of molecular profiling.
