All ACR/ARP members are invited to attend the opening session. The opening session will include the presidential address from the presidents of American College of Rheumatology, American Rheumatology Professionals, and the Rheumatology Research Foundation. In addition, the session will include special recognition of the 2022 Awards of Distinction, Awards of Merit, Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Presidential Gold Medal award winners. Opening session will conclude with a dynamic keynote speaker.

Learning Objectives:

Discuss remarkable changes in health care concerns and changes in educational delivery tools.
Reflect on the physician-patient relationship particularly in the context of the specialty of rheumatology.
Understand the stresses in modern medicine and to reflect on our lived experiences
Explore the paradigm for our present narrative in ancient texts such as Gilgamesh and Beowulf and to explore narrative and story structure as it pertains to us
Consider how meaning and the nature of heroism can be extracted from human experiences on the scale of the present pandemic
