Complications of dry mouth are commonly encountered in the daily rheumatology practice as a sequelae of many autoimmune diseases including Sjögren's, systemic lupus erythematous, or rheumatoid arthritis. Dry mouth results in poor quality of life and drives increased dental costs, yet frequently is not addressed during clinic. The goal of this session is to update ACR participants on the most recent advances in the recognition, prevention and treatment of oral complications of dryness. Oral health experts will discuss dental caries, tooth loss, candida infections, and glossodynia so participants learn approaches that will improve quality of life and cost for their patients with dry mouth.
