Traditional rheumatology practice models include academic institutions, non-profit, or for-profit healthcare systems and private practice. With the ever-changing landscape of healthcare and health coverage, many models have emerged in rheumatology to focus on patient care and provider experiences. Models like direct care, concierge, wellness, and coaching are beginning to change the ways we practice rheumatology and the ways our patients experience it. Many of these models prioritize patient access to care, incorporate a holistic approach to health and well-being, allow more time spent during an office visit, and bypass some of the barriers providers and patients encounter with health insurance. In addition, these models also aim to decrease physician burnout by allowing the clinician to provide care in a way and system that best suit their practice style. This sessions aims to define and explore innovative models of care in the practice of rheumatology.
