Bashar Qumseya, MD, MPH, obtained his BS from Beloit College, majoring in biochemistry. He graduated Suma Cum Laude, received several awards, and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated medical school from St. George University Magna Cum Laude, where he was inducted into Iota Epsilon Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr. Qumseya completed his residency in internal medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He completed his fellowships in gastroenterology and advanced endoscopy from the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Dr. Qumseya earned an MPH from Harvard’s School of Public Health. He has been a member of ASGE's Standards of Practice Committee since 2015, and is currently the Chair of this committee. Through his role, he has published many clinical practice guidelines which set the standards for clinical practice in gastroenterology in the U.S. and throughout the world. His research interests are focused on Barrett’s esophagus, reflux, obesity, and systematic reviews. Dr. Qumseya has over 100 publications inducing peer reviewed manuscripts, clinical guidelines, book chapters, and meeting abstracts. Dr. Qumseya is Associate Chief of Endoscopy at the University of Florida, and Associate Professor, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
