Mitchell Mah’moud, MD, FACG, is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology at Duke University School of Medicine. Prior to 2000, he was an Assistant Professor of Medicine and the Director of Clinical Hepatology as well as the Associate Program Director of the GI Fellowship in the Division of Digestive Diseases at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. He received his undergraduate medical degree from the University College Hospital and the Ibadan Medical School in Ibadan, Nigeria. He subsequently completed his graduate medical training in Internal Medicine from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine/ Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Thereafter he received his Fellowship Training in Digestive Diseases at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Mah’moud also holds a doctorate degree in Theology. He is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Furthermore, he is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD). He also serves on numerous leadership committees of the leading national GI societies including the AGA, the ACG, and the AASLD. He runs and oversees one of the busiest Liver Clinics in the North Carolina. He has conducted several previous and ongoing clinical studies in both Liver and Gastrointestinal disorders with a focus on viral hepatitis, NASH, and IBD.
