Peter Higgins, MD, PhD, MSc, is the Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Program at the University of Michigan. He received his undergraduate, MD, and PhD degrees from Duke University, and a master's degree in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis from the University of Michigan. His research interests focus on the causes and treatment of intestinal scarring in Crohn's disease, measurement of patient-reported outcomes in IBD, and the role of the microbiota in flares of IBD and recurrent C. difficile colitis. Dr. Higgins has served the CCFA as co-chair of the Clinical Research Alliance, Clinical Chair of the IBD Exchange planning team, and served as IBD editor of The American Journal of Gastroenterology from 2009-2015.
