David Lewin, MD, is a Professor of Pathology in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Dr. Lewin graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1987 with a degree in economics and biology. He attended medical school in California at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), receiving his MD degree in 1991. He completed his pathology residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology in 1995 at UCLA. He completed a GI pathology fellowship under Dr. Klaus Lewin at UCLA then completed a surgical pathology fellowship at the University of Southern California in 1996. He joined the faculty at MUSC in 1996. Dr. Lewin is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology. Dr. Lewin is a member of several professional organizations including the AMA, AGA, AASLD, American Society of Clinical Pathology, College of American Pathologists, United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, Gastrointestinal Pathology Society, South Carolina Medical Association, and Pancreatobiliary Pathology Society. He has received several honors/awards during his career including the recognition by Best Doctors in America. He is a past president of the Gastrointestinal Pathology Society and past president of the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Dr. Lewin's clinical and research interests focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, Barrett's esophagus, and pancreatic cancer. He is also very active in medical education and has won awards at MUSC for his teaching of medical students and residents. He serves as the Associate Director of the Pathology Resident Training Program.
