Nicole C. Panarelli, MD, is Associate Professor of Pathology, Section Head for Gastrointestinal Pathology, and Director of Anatomic Pathology Research at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Panarelli completed her Anatomic Pathology residency at Weill Cornell Medical College followed by fellowship in Gastrointestinal, Liver, and Pancreatobiliary Pathology at Weill Cornell Medicine and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She subsequently joined the Department of Pathology at Weill Cornell Medicine before joining the Anatomic Pathology faculty at Montefiore. Dr. Panarelli lectures in multiple and national and international courses on the subject of gastrointestinal pathology. Her research focuses on diagnosis of inflammatory digestive disorders and identification of prognostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to improve outcomes for patients with pancreatic cancer. Dr. Panarelli has authored 50 peer-reviewed articles and numerous books and book chapters on benign and malignant gastrointestinal diseases. She is co-editor of the recently-published AFIP Fascicle, Non-Neoplastic Diseases of the Gastrointestinal Tract. She currently serves on the editorial board for the Gastrointestinal Pathology Section of Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and Modern Pathology. Dr. Panarelli is also a member of the executive committee and the secretary and treasurer of the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society and a member of the education committee for the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.
