A. Sidney Barritt IV, MD, MSCR, FACG, is a tenured professor at the University of North Carolina. He is the Director of Hepatology in the UNC Liver Center and the Transplant Hepatology Fellowship Program Director. Dr. Barritt conducts clinical outcomes research in nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), general hepatology, and liver transplantation. Dr. Barritt leads the UNC Liver Center’s clinical trial program in NAFLD where he is PI on multiple phase 2 and 3 industry sponsored clinical trials and is also a steering committee member for the real-world observational study TARGET-NASH. He is member of the NIH-sponsored Drug Induced Liver Injury Network and the PCORI PAL-Liver study. Dr. Barritt is also a founding PI of SECURE-Liver, an international registry of patients with liver disease and SARS-CoV2 infection. Dr. Barritt is a collaborator and advisor to multiple other investigators in the UNC allied schools of health, including the Gillings School of Global Public Health, the Eshelman School of Pharmacy, and the UNC Adams School of Dentistry. Dr. Barritt is a Fellow of the ACG and AASLD. Outside of work, Dr. Barritt enjoys spending time with his family, road running, and triathlons.
