Octavia Pickett-Blakely, MD, MHS is an Associate Professor of Clinical in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Director of the Penn Center for GI Nutrition at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Pickett-Blakely completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Johns Hopkins Hospital as well as a Master of Health Science degree program in Clinical Investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Thereafter, she joined the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Pennsylvania and established the Penn Center for GI- Nutrition. The Center’s tri-part mission is to provide subspecialty, nutrition-focused care to adults with gastrointestinal and liver diseases, improve nutrition education for learners across the educational spectrum, and enhance patient care by conducting GI disease- focused nutrition research. Dr. Pickett-Blakely is currently involved in clinical trials investigating novel therapeutic approaches to celiac disease and intestinal failure. In addition, she participates in research exploring the relationship of obesity and gastrointestinal and liver diseases. She is passionate about educating the future generation of physicians about the importance of nutrition in disease.
