Melissa Scala graduated with a medical degree from Georgetown University. She completed residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and fellowship at Georgetown University. She is currently a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University and a practicing neonatologist at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Her primary research interest is exploring physiologic mechanisms and best care practices for family centered developmental care in the NICU.
