Required Training for Pedal Power Community Event: The Nuts and Bolts of Adaptive Bike Fitting

Adaptive cycling provides a unique opportunity for individuals with diverse abilities to participate in physical activity, socialize with peers, connect with family and engage in the community. Cycling can be a highly motivating activity that provides life-long and meaningful connections. With the wide variety of adaptive cycles to choose from, and individuals with a broad range of needs, there are many factors to consider when recommending an adaptive bike. During this interactive session, we will discuss important factors in choosing an adaptive cycle. We will additionally discuss bike safety and considerations for varying skill levels. Participants will learn the basics of how to measure, fit and adjust adaptive bikes. This training will allow participants to trial a variety of cycling options, with hands-on experience fitting adaptive cycles and adjusting bike components.

The session is an extension of the community cycling event hosted by the APTA Pediatrics Annual Conference. After the workshop, participants are invited to join the community event to support children and their families as they explore various adaptive cycles and pedal through a fun-filled and interactive cycling course.
