Regional Consultant for OT and PT Region10 Education Service Center Rowlett, Texas
The purpose of this session is to make physical therapists/assistants aware of the benefits and potential use of sensory stories with students who have multiple disabilities. Speech and language pathologists have used sensory stories to increase a child’s participation and understanding when reading a book. Standing frames and other positioning equipment are frequently used in homes and in classrooms. For children with multiple disabilities, it is sometimes difficult to provide engaging learning experiences for use in supported standing or other positions. Sensory stories can be used to engage children who would benefit from a variety of sensory experiences to receive information.
