As physical therapists, one of our goals is to promote the health and wellness of every individual. But what do we do if the individual experiences behavioral challenges that impact their participation in exercise and movement? This presentation will share our strategies to promote improved participation and modify exercise tasks for individuals who experience behavioral challenges, including individuals with varying levels of physical and intellectual disability. We will include a review of the literature on exercise participation for individuals with neuropsychological disorders that impact behavior, as well as discussion of strategies to promote success. Case study discussions will help audience members apply these strategies to their own practice.
