Due to the lack of child behavioral specialists in Kansas’ rural and underserved communities, Telehealth ROCKS (Rural Outreach to Children in Kansas) has grown over the last five years to meet the student and family where they’re at, namely, schools. This federally funded program leverages behavioral and mental health specialists affiliated with a regional medical center to increase rural youth and family’s access to a menu of evidence-based cognitive and behavioral interventions using telehealth. With rapid student transition from school to home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Telehealth ROCKS team describes how they adapted the telehealth clinical services from encounters in supervised school settings to direct-to-consumer encounters in unsupervised in-home telebehavioral settings. The authors describe efforts to balance the high need for evidence-based child telebehavioral services during the COVID-19 pandemic with striving to maintain core values of family-centered, coordinated, efficient, and effective care. Balancing the unique advantages and challenges of telepsychotherapy in the in-home setting is emphasized with qualitative data from key stakeholders, including parents and school-based site coordinators. These perspectives inform the successful implementation of telebehavioral health services and highlight areas for growth as we consider the sustainability of these services in the face of an ongoing heightened need for mental health services. Additionally, Telehealth ROCKS has utilized the Project ECHO model to create a technology-enabled learning community to disseminate evidence-based tiered prevention and treatment practices (e.g., Psychological First Aid [PFA], Skills for Psychological Recovery [SPR], Child Adult Relationship Enhancement [CARE], Parent Child Interaction Therapy [PCIT]) and meet training needs (e.g., suicide prevention, resilience). This telementoring model also promotes rapid dissemination of cognitive and behavioral techniques to community members in the face of emergencies who otherwise may lack the tools to respond in these situations effectively.Learning Objectives:
