BIZIA Treatment Center
Dr. Jean-Pierre Daulouède is widely recognized as a pioneer of methadone treatment in France. An addictionologist psychiatrist, Dr. Daulouède is the Director of the BIZIA Addiction Treatment Center and since 2007 has directed the international symposium ATHS (Addiction, Hepatitis, AIDS). In a period in which the French government opposed the use of agonist opioid medication to treat heroin use disorder, he was a passionate patient advocate. In a period when those with opioid use disorder (OUD) did not have access to treatment, deaths due to AIDS, hepatitis and overdoses were increasing in France. In response, Dr. Daulouède and others initiated a “congress” to promote evidence-based, not ideological treatment. Following this congress, in which the nascent EUROPAD participated, buprenorphine treatment was introduced in France. On behalf of and in collaboration with the United Nations, Dr. Daulouède is one of the developers and implementers of a buprenorphine program of HIV patients in Vietnam.
Dr. Daulouède is respected and recognized throughout Europe for his dedication, passion, compassion care of those living with opioid use disorder. Appropriately and deservedly, he was awarded the European Opioid Addiction Treatment Association (EUROPAD) Award in 2014.
