Michael Litterer is the Vice President at the RWJBarnabas Health (RWJBH) Institute for Prevention and Recovery (IFPR). A Fellow of the NJ Healthcare Executive Leadership Academy (FHELA), a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), and a Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS), he holds a degree in Public Health and has over 20 years of experience in the field of community health with a particular focus on substance use prevention and recovery. Michael is currently enrolled in the Rutgers Executive Masters in Public Administration Graduate Program.
Michael provides executive oversight of all IFPR programs and services implemented by a team of 230 skilled and passionate professionals, all working to address community health. IFPR programs and services include individual and environmental prevention programs, early intervention services, clinical efforts to enhance pain practices and opioid prescribing, tobacco and nicotine recovery services, hospital and community-based peer recovery supports, case management services, disaster-based emotional support services, and professional training. These data-driven programs take a person-centered approach to preventing and addressing trauma with a particular emphasis on social determinants of health (SDoH).
Michael is the system Chairperson of the EPIC Social Care Workgroup that leads efforts to coordinate the implementation of all community-based services system-wide that utilize the electronic health record. Michael is a proud member of the multidisciplinary RWJBH Corporate Tackling Addiction Task Force (TATF), which aims to address the chronic disease of addiction holistically. The Task Force works to reduce the stigma associated with substance use disorder and increase the system’s capacity to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease. In addition, the TATF coordinates all substance use-related education, training, policy development, and patient care. Michael is also a member of the RWJBH Ending Racism Executive Advisory Workgroup, the RWJBH Corporate New Jersey Dept. of Health Quality Improvement Program (NJ-QIP), and The RWJBH Corporate SDoH Governance Committee.
