He is the Great-Grandson of W. E. B. Du Bois. He enjoys speaking to groups of young people who are discovering Du Bois for the first time. He also enjoys having a dialogue with people who know Du Bois and know where he fits in their lives. And most of all he enjoys talking about where his “Grandpa” fits in history. He is a native son of the most storied neighborhood in African American history – Harlem.
His education includes Stuyvesant High School in New York City, the State University of New York at Brockport and the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has worked for over 30 years as a human resources specialist, evaluator, statistical analyst and manager. The first four were spent with the Center for Health Services/Policy Research. The next 25 were with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. He is currently an evaluator for a school-based asthma program and a grant from the NHLBI, and co-lead on DEI work in the Breathing Institute at Children’s Hospital Colorado, where he has been for 7 years.
He served as the co-chair of the Board of Directors for The Rape Assistance and Awareness Program and as the Chair of the Board of the Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault. He is currently on the Boards of Directors of the Community College of Aurora Foundation, Story for All, the Burnes Center for Poverty and Homelessness, the Center for Health Progress, Ready to Work Aurora and the Denver Reparations Council. He is a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
He is married to Teresa, the proud father of three sons and grandfather of three granddaughters and two grandsons. The latest furry additions to the family are two cats, Skittles and Calliope and a dog Chester.
