Sika Yeboah-Sampong, J.D. is a Senior Staff Attorney at the Legal Action Center who works to address insurance and other barriers to mental health and substance use disorder care. In this position, Sika directs LAC's work on the Community Health Access to Addiction and Mental Healthcare Project (CHAMP), New York State’s substance use and mental health parity ombuds program. She provides technical assistance about insurance issues regarding access to mental health and substance use disorder care, including enforcement of rights under the federal parity act and related New York State insurance laws, conducts parity trainings, and works with partner organizations to conduct CHAMP outreach. Sika also works on issues involving healthcare discrimination against people who use substances, including by collaborating with communities to identify potential violations of federal laws, engaging with directly-impacted people, and providing related trainings.
Previously, Sika worked as a Volunteer Assistant Attorney General/Social Justice Fellow in the Health Care Bureau at the Office of the New York Attorney General. While there, she worked on matters ranging from access to reproductive healthcare to rules affecting association health plans. She earned her J.D. from University of California, Los Angeles - School of Law in 2017.
