At the completion of this activity, participants will:
Define the Americans with Disabilities Act’s (ADA) protections for people who have opioid use disorder.
Identify potential discrimination under the ADA that people in treatment and recovery may experience.
Recall familiar with federal enforcement matters and resources involving people with opioid use disorder.
Presentation Summary: The Department of Justice recently issued guidance addressing when and how individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) are protected by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The Department has also been enforcing the ADA to protect individuals with OUD who are in treatment or recovery and has entered into several recent settlements. Participants at this session will: (1) learn about the protections afforded individuals with OUD by the ADA; (2) learn how to identify potential discrimination under the ADA that people in treatment and recovery may experience; and (3) learn about recent federal enforcement efforts in this area and other resources.
